Getting Rid of Ticks
Ticks are insects that latch onto your animal's skin and suck their blood, feeding night and day like a tiny vampire. Ticks swell in size as they fill up with your pet's blood, and then lay eggs in the fur. These eggs will either fall off of the pet's fur or stay on your animal. Wherever they stay or go is where they are likely to hatch.
If you have a problem with ticks on your pet right now, you can bring your pet into our Phoenix vet clinic. We have trained veterinarians that can give you a comprehensive solution that is much better than these tips, but you may find these tick tips sufficient for your problem.
When you find a tick on your pet, it's important to remove it. Ticks usually latch on (and stay latched on) to areas of your animal's fur that the pet can't reach. For example, it is common to find ticks on dogs' backs, or on the back of the neck or even the top of their head. Ticks can latch on anywhere, but these are prime locations to look for ticks because pets aren't easily able to reach the tick to remove it themselves.
Removing the tick is disgusting but it isn't very difficult, and it does need to be done. If you don't want to do it, have a Phoenix vet handle it for you by contacting us today.
How to Remove a Tick
First grab the tick as close to your pet's skin as possible. If you grab the back of its body, the tick could burst. This is going to put blood on your fingers, kill the tick, and leave the tick with its jaws stuffed inside your pet's skin indefinitely. In fact, if this does occur, bring your pet into our Phoenix vet clinic so we can take care of the situation.
After grabbing the tick as close to your pet's skin as possible, pull up on the tick and it will be removed. However, removal of the tick isn't necessarily the end of the tick problem. It's possible that the tick has already laid eggs on your pet. There could be eggs on your pets fur that are about to hatch, and there may also be eggs around your house (in bed sheets, your carpet, curtains, etc) that will soon hatch.
